user: I think that people say that to flatter me.

jabberwacky: Why would they do that?

user: People feel comfortable if they can feel good about themselves; it makes people more pliable, similar to drinking and drugs (aside from general biological damage).

jabberwacky: How does it make people nervous?

user: Flattery? I guess people know that few are ever nice for a reason.

jabberwacky: Well I say that you can't use it as a reason.

user: A reason for what?

jabberwacky: For why you don't trust me.

user: I don't need a reason.

jabberwacky: Do you believe you are alive?

user: Between intermittent periods of numbness and involuntary muscle spasms? Maybe.

user: Why?
